The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Samara. When we left the hotel to explore SD for the day, we returned to find a very nice surprise in our room. Nice touch! The interior design is stylish and ultramodern with a lot of fun gadgets to play with (e.g., remote controlled mood lighting). The location of the hotel is perfect for people who want to explore San Diego's Gaslamp neighborhood. All you have to do is walk outside of the hotel and you are right in the center of the action.
I liked the shower set-up (right in the corner of the bedroom) because I was with my girlfriend, but I could see how this would be extremely awkward if I were traveling with friends, family or colleagues. If you are in this situation, this is not the hotel for you. Also, I didn't think the street noise really was as bothersome as some of the other reviewers have been reporting. As long as you keep the windows closed and you are not a very light sleeper, you should be fine.
the place was clean the house maids were great and the staff were friendly and helpful
i could not complain about any thing
The design was great and the staff was awesome it was definitely an experience the hotel is definitely for the type of person that is into the nightlife
Being on the second floor was great until the night came and the nightlife started. It's definitely for the people who enjoy the late night partying because the noise was mad crazy.
The service was good. In the night they have a turn down service and they bring a little snack to the room.
The lift was not working for my whole stay. I had to use the stairs and especially going up this was not really what I was expecting. The bathroom is also strange being in the room itself with no coverage. As I was alone this did not bother me.
The location was perfect for the Jazz Festival and also for walking around the Gaslamp area. The room amenities were first class and the espresso machine was a perfect wake up call.
The noise of the downtown traffic into the early morning hours was too loud in the room.
The hotel is old, no carpet on the floor, shower with no tub, or curtain, it is very noisy, the elivator old, and noisy and needs to be changed. there is no continental breakfast, although it is included in the price, when I asked they gave me a bag with yougart and cornflex bar and a juice(terrible). Also they charged me $3.00 daily, as a hidden fees( historic place charges).
I didn't like it at all
Extremely attentive staff (welcome, remembered our names/car, provided maps, complimentary cookies, etc) and very comfortable bed. We didnt have an issue with the noise (it was mardi gras) as we were on the 4th floor in the back. The Merk hotel restaurant was fantastic! Would stay here again in a heart beat!
Perhaps calling it a 'design' hotel is a little misleading at first, but once you note the details it becomes clear. Be prepared for no official lobby. As with the other reviews, agreed it is a hotel to stay in with your significant other due to openness of the shower.
The staff remembered the guests and were very helpful. Some nights they sent dessert to my room which was a treat. I loved the in room expresso machine - yummy!
Funky room design - I was so not cool enough for it. Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. Evening cookies delivered to the room were a nice touch. The complementary breakfast bag is also a delightful bonus.
Gaslamp can be quite rowdy and loud, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. But that's not the hotel's fault, of course.
I liked being right downtown where I could walk to fabulous restaurants and browse unique shops.
I did not like the female manager. When the coffee machine was not working in my room, she blamed the problem on me.
From the website, I thought The Keating would be something different, a contemporary hotel and an unusual experience.
The hotel starting from the lobby is empty ,cold and red. the building is a historic, beautiful, and classic place and the asthetic of the hotel just doesn't work. The staff was pleasant, but seemed to be alittle incompetant. I understand modern and get the concept of the hotel being modeled after a fararri,( which was pointed out several times)sometimes it was too literal, and frankly just not comfortable. In the deluxe room there was no chair in the room, It would have helped the comfort level immensly. Overall I wanted something different, and I got it, we will not stay again or recommend, just not comfortable. Don't waste your money!!!!
The whole hotel is amazing. top notch design, good beds, awesome staff. excelent location, right in the middle of gaslamp. they brought complimentary cookies every day, there is a coffee machine at the room, which is great. the hotel seems designed by pininfarina.
Shower don't have a door, and windows are translucid... Can be embarassing if you are with a colleague. anyway, it is great if you are solo or if you are with your wife/girlfriend. when i left at 5h30 AM there was no one at the frontdesk, and they did not answered my call when i called them to the number that was at the door. had to leave a note on their desk with my email address and asking for the bill.. no response yet. I really had to go.. had my flight early in the morning and had a cab already outside waiting. those two are not complaints, just notes so they can improve service. i would recomend this hotel anyway.
Very very very , helpful and friendly employees
I loved the atmosphere at The Keating and the Decor. It is right across from Horton Plaza so shopping was very convenient. The room was very nice, big, luxurious and modern. Staff was wonderful as well. Location was great.
Very awesome modern hotel with Italian influences. Plus you get your own espresso maker in your room!
Parking was a bit pricey ($35) at the time. That along with tip, since it was valet parking, brought up closer to $40/night.
